5 Ways to Improve Writing Skills

1. Practice the Art: The first and the most important step to become a skillful writer is by practicing writing and dedicating at least thirty minutes each day by writing something. The beginning is always difficult and most people find it difficult to start writing. Be sure to start and practice every day by writing on at least something.

2. Challenge Yourself: We have just begun writing and are slowly starting to build our skills towards the craft. The next step should be to write on topics out of our comfort zones and challenge ourselves. The key here is to stretch ourselves as far as we can. To do this, find and practice the craft on some non-conventional and new topics. Writing on stuff that is interesting to you is very typical so start writing on topics that are difficult for you.

3. Be Yourself: In the process of becoming an effective writer, one must discover one’s writing style. We are not writing to become someone else but only to search for our original writing voice. Developing your verse of writing a piece is what makes a writer skillful.

4. Don’t write anything and everything: One must comply with all the basic tools of writing starting from the right grammar, the correct punctuation, and the right usage of words. The art must be worshipped and hence must be done in the utmost right manner.

5. Don’t Give Up: If writing is something that is a part of your personal and professional life, then you must take it seriously and don’t stop. Practice it every day and treat it with honor and privilege.

A skillful writer is one who starts small with a small blog or a magazine column and grows eventually. With the additional steps of developing your art and experience, the art grows and also the artist within.

Books I have read so far: STAY HUNGRY STAY FOOLISH

STAY HUNGRY STAY FOOLISH is a collection of some of the inspiring stories of 25 IIM Ahmedabad graduates who chose to tread a path of their own making. Author Rashmi Bansal is a writer, entrepreneur and a youth expert. She is the author of 6 best selling books on entrepreneurship which have sold more than a million copies and have been translated into 10 different languages.

The book was commissioned by the centre for Innovation, Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE), IIM Ahmedabad. The book has stories of three types of people:

  1. The Believers ( the ones who already know they want to pursue their dream of becoming an entrepreneur).
  2. The Opportunists (the ones who did not know their path but opportunity knocked and they seized it).
  3. The Alternative Vision ( the ones who are pursing entrepreneurship for a social cause or as a way of creative expression)

Each story may be different but at another level they are all the same. The entrepreneur took a leap of faith. They struggled and strived for years. Before finally achieving a size and scale which made the effort what we call a success.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS:

1.Be early. You can make your mistakes while it is cheap to make them, when there is no competition.

2. Do not exaggerate in your business plan. Undercommit and overdeliver.

3. Get great people- sell them the vision, the idea and share the wealth, be generous with offering stock.

4.The risk- reward equation is completely in favour of the entrepreneur. There is no way that you will be economically rewarded less for being an entrepreneur than by taking up a job.

5.Be true to your inner voice. Don’t just think about it, just jump into it and do it.

The book basically seeks to inspire young B-School graduates to look beyond placements and salaries. To believe in their dreams.

All in all a great book for young and aspiring entrepreneurs.

Do read and share your reviews.

Why GrandParents should never leave us?

GrandParents’ love will never grow old.

Little did I knew about him leaving me alone and allowing me to face every bit of life by myself. Nana and Badepapa were just names given to them. They were more than parents to me. The level of comfort I felt in hugging him, talking to him and gracefully getting all my wishes fulfilled was yet another beautiful story. You can get enough of everything in this world but you cannot actually get enough of your GrandParents.

He. He was different. Always accompanying me with all my dreams. Always supporting me with all my mistakes and always being proud of me. Not that Mumma Papa was different but his support was unlike all others. He treated me like his princess who will never leave his side and will always listen to his indifferent stories repeating the same characters. He was my gem. He was my Nana.

BadePapa was always a distinct grandparent. With all those habits of eating, smoking and enjoying life, he was a wonderful child at heart. From helping me with complex math problems to giving me money for snacks he was a proud grandpa. His bedroom always had room for me and my brother to binge-watch television.

Little did I knew about the importance of these two in my life and the kinds of experience they poured out in my life. My life was beyond special with them. They aren’t there with me now but their abundant love and warmth always stay with me.

P.S Namaste People. I have posted this one to remind you all how all of us so love our grandparents and miss them tons. Please comment on how you felt on the same. Looking forward.

CHEERS!

Those nights and days spend together will always remain with me,

Those moments of pleasure,

Those smiles of leisure’s,

Those adventured talks

And those non-stop walks,

Each and every moment of darkness,

Spend to proclaim something,

Bringing me close to you,

My heart pounded to figure,

Whether it’s me or something magical has actually happened,

God has just peeped into my life proving why he has made me to wait.

For something unusual happen to me,

Trust me it was neither the darkness, nor the loneliness,

But it was your pure heart and soul.

That made me realize,

What is to be loved, to be relished and behold.

Only now I could feel a sense of indulgencing and accomplishment,

And the power of love, Of Course.
